'Speed Racer' Star Emile Hirsch Fires His Agent
'Speed Racer' star Emile Hirsch has dropped his agent almost as fast as the movie bombed at the box office.
The 23-year-old actor, who received rave reviews for his performance in Sean Penn's 'Into the Wild', has fired his agent -- United Talent Agency's Shari Rosenzweig. Hirsch lost 40 pounds for his role in 'Into the Wild' and also received a Screen Actors Guild nomination for best actor. Something that clearly won't happen with 'Speed Racer'.
The 23-year-old said in a recent interview that 'Speed Racer' was actally a much tougher film to work in, so as you can imagine he wasn't pleased when the movie flopped right out of the gate -- debuting in third place at the box office with $18.6 million.
"You know what's crazy is in a weird way, it was almost emotionally more difficult to make Speed Racer because you're on the green screen and it's just so taxing and you're doing a lot more takes and it's so technical. So a lot of the things that you think would be easier, you're on the safety of the green screen and you've got a big budget and you've got the nice catering. In a weird way, it's still harder on you mentally," said Hirsch.
"Into the Wild, I'm like climbing mountains in a kayak and everything is so raw and you're just like, 'Aw, this is so great.' You're rejuvenated at the end of every day whereas a lot of the times when you shoot on green screen, even if you're having a great time and stuff, it's still is taking from you versus giving to you."
At a reported $150 million, 'Speed Racer' was definitely a gamble for the Wachowski Brothers' that didn't pay off. One has to wonder how much the movie will earn in its second week considering another family friendly flick, 'The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian', opens this weekend.
